PILE STATIC LOAD TEST

Static load tests were performed during the test phase of each contract to verify the design assumptions and load-carrying capacity of the piles. Telltale rods installed at various depths within the piles were used to evaluate the load transfer behavior of the piles with regard to the surrounding soil and bearing stratum. The static tests were carried out as per ASTM’s D1143, which is entitled “Standard Test Method for Piles Under Static Axial Compression Load.

PILE DYNAMIC LOAD TEST

Dynamic Load Testing is a fast, reliable and cost-effective method of evaluating foundation bearing capacity. GRL can perform Dynamic Load Testing on driven piles, drilled shafts, auger-cast piles, micropiles, helical piles, and other cast in place foundations. It is often possible to conduct several dynamic load tests in a single day. Dynamic Load Tests are standardized by ASTM D4945-12 Standard Test Method for High-Strain Dynamic Testing of Piles.

PILE INTEGRITY TEST

The Pile Integrity Tester (PIT) gives peace of mind that a pile or shaft is free of major cracks and voids, prior to construction of the superstructure. It may be used on most concrete or wood foundations. The PIT may also be used to test piles integral in the structure, such as those supporting existing bridges or towers, and may assess their length. All models of the Pile Integrity Tester are battery powered, operated through a high visibility touch screen, and include a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) feature and a license of PIT-W Standard Software. All comply with ASTM D5882 and many other codes and specifications.

CYLINDER TEST

The compressive strength of concrete is the most common performance measure used by the engineer in designing buildings and other structures. The compressive strength is measured by breaking cylindrical concrete specimens in a compression-testing machine. A testing machine, capable of providing the load rates as prescribed in the standard should be equipped with two steel bearing blocks, one of which is a spherically seated block that will bear on the upper surface of the specimen, and the other a solid block on which the specimen will be placed on. Before conducting ASTM C39, it is important to read the entire specification in the relevant ASTM publication.

REBAR TEST

Steel reinforcing bars or rebar is used in concrete construction to enhance tensile strength, complementing concrete’s excellent compressive properties. Rebar also helps maintain structural integrity as concrete cracks from expansion and contraction cycles. The tensile strength of rebar steel and the tensile rebar-concrete bond strength are extremely important properties of rebar. ASTM A615 / A615M – 16 Standard Specification for Deformed and Plain carbon-Steel Bars for Concrete Reinforcement is used.EBAR
